Food Service
Kitchen Mission Statement
At Huckins, we believe that the food we serve is an essential part of our community. It is our goal to align our food program with Camp Huckins’ mission to strengthen Spirit, Mind and Body. Our kitchen’s mission is to provide wholesome, delicious, appealing and nutritious meals for every camper and staff member while inspiring a respect for food and its value and empowering all eaters to make educated decisions in how to fuel their bodies.
Guiding Values
We strive to make conscious choices about where we source our food. We partner with local farmers and growers as much as possible, thus reducing our carbon footprint and allowing us to have a personal relationship with our food producers and serve food at the peak of freshness and flavor.
We try to be continually aware of the balance between wholesome, homemade foods and convenience. Knowing that good food takes time, we endeavor to use our time wisely. Our menus are designed to include as many foods made from scratch as time and staffing allow.
We provide campers with food that is recognizable but also tempt them to try new foods and expand their culinary tastes.
Our food is never deep fried and all campers have access to a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables and diverse protein options.
We want every camper, staff member and guest to have food that is safe for them to eat. We adhere to the strictest food safety standards. We provide vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, peanut/tree nut-free and dairy-free options. If we cannot accommodate a specific dietary restriction we will do our best to be transparent and work with families to develop a plan. While we do provide these alternative options we are not a peanut/tree nut-free facility. Peanut Butter is available at every meal. For referral to accredited camps that accommodate these specific needs please contact the American Camp Association (ACA) New England at (781) 541-6080.
