Ordering Medication
Camp Huckins Medication Ordering
After some challenges last year as well as feedback from families, we will be returning to using an online pharmacy to order medications for our 2026 season. This year, Camp Huckins Health Center will be using PackMyRX. Please visit PackMyRX.com for more information and to register. Once your child is registered in the PackMyRX system, your provider will need to send a prescription for all prescription medications. They do not need to send prescriptions for over-the-counter medications, vitamins or supplements. We do require a medication order to administer those at camp. Please see below for instructions and clarification.
PackMyRX cannot fill medications if you have a Medicaid-based insurance. If your camper is on a Medicaid insurance, please email [email protected] by May 1st to discuss options for filling your prescriptions.
With 350 campers attending each session, we administer many medications. In order to safely store and administer medications, we require that you use our medication ordering system, refrain from ordering unnecessary medications, supplements, and vitamins, and abide by the following guidelines:
Medication Ordering Guidelines
● All medications must be entered into Camp Brain in the medication section of the
health history AND ordered through PackMyRX. Daily prescription medications, daily
over-the-counter medications, and as-needed prescription medications must be ordered
through the PackMyRx pharmacy. This includes daily allergy medications, daily
preventative inhalers, vitamins and supplements. If you have questions about whether or
not you need to order medication, please consult with our health center manager at
[email protected].
● All medications entered into the Camp Brain system need to match the order sent to
PackMyRx. Please double check the medication, dose, and administration time. If there
is a discrepancy, we cannot dispense the medication.
○ We give medications at breakfast (7:40am), lunch (12:40pm), dinner (5:40pm),
and bedtime (8:45pm). We ask you to only indicate bedtime for administration if it
is a sedating medication or medically necessary.
● All prescription and over-the-counter medications, including vitamins and
supplements, must be listed on the physical exam form completed and signed by
your camper’s physician. If it is not listed on the physical exam form, we will require a
letter of necessity written by your physician.
● You do NOT need to order rescue inhalers, epi-pens, Accutane, birth control pills,
and certain injectable medications (ie: Humera, insulin), or compounded
medications. These medications can be turned in at drop-off. The medications need to
be in their original containers, with the original label that includes your camper’s name
and the prescription information, must not be expired, and must contain enough
medication for each day at camp. Please enter these medications into the medication
section when completing the health history.
○ If your child has an inhaler or epi-pen at camp, their provider must complete an
asthma action plan and/or an epi-pen/allergy action plan and it must be uploaded
into the CampBrain account. If their allergy action plan includes a dose of
diphenhydramine or cetirizine (Zyrtec), you do not need to bring these to camp or
order these as we stock them in the health center and dining hall.
● Medications will not be accepted during check-in without prior approval from the
health center and only in case of treatments for new bacterial infections including ear
infections, strep throat, or skin conditions. Any medications turned in at check-in that
were not registered and approved by the health center but are determined to be
necessary to continue at camp will incur a financial penalty.
● Please note that NO medications are allowed in camper cabins per Board of Health
regulations, our state licensing, and our insurance policy. All medications coming into
camp must be registered, ordered via our pharmacy, kept in the health center, and have
a parent-signed permission form on record. Any medications found in a cabin will be
confiscated and a financial penalty will be incurred even if that medication is not
administered.
● We do NOT allow gummy medication. These cannot be properly and hygienically
stored and dispensed at camp. Please practice with chewable tablets or pills before
coming to camp. There will be NO exceptions.
● We do not recommend vitamins/supplements: As there are 350 campers and 2-3
nurses on duty, we ask that you refrain from sending multivitamins or supplements
UNLESS they are prescribed by your child’s Health Care Provider AND medically
necessary/needed during a 2-4 week stay. All Vitamins/supplements will still need to be
ordered through the pre-packing Pharmacy. If Pack My RX cannot source your
supplement, they allow you to ship it to them for packing. This incurs an extra fee.
● All supplements including melatonin will only be given if we receive a letter of
medical necessity from your child’s provider. Please do not order melatonin or
magnesium for sleep if they do not take it daily at home.
● We do NOT allow changes in dosing of ADHD or psychiatric medications including
SSRIs within 45 days of camp.
● Our camp health center is very well stocked. You do NOT need to order as-needed
medications such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen, diphenhydramine, antibiotic cream or
itching cream, or cough or cold medications through our system. Our health center
stocks these medications in liquid, chewable, and pill form. We also stock dye-free and
gluten-free medications.
