Renewable Energy Initiatives
Since 2012, Camp Huckins has expanded its commitment to sustainability through renewable energy initiatives that reduce our environmental impact while providing meaningful learning opportunities for campers.
Working with New Hampshire-based ReVision Energy, Camp Huckins installed a 7.92-kilowatt solar array on the bathhouse and a 42.6-kilowatt array on the dining hall. Together, our solar systems generate roughly 49,251 kilowatt-hours of electricity each year — enough to offset the equivalent of driving more than 89,830 miles in a gas-powered vehicle.
Our solar arrays have become a highlight of camp and a valuable learning tool. Each morning, campers receive an update on how much solar energy was generated the day before, giving them a firsthand look at renewable energy in action and the positive impact sustainable choices can have on our environment.
Curious How We Financed Solar?
Over time, the camp has the option to purchase the solar arrays at a significantly reduced cost and retain ownership of all power generated by the system.
