The Program Lodge Project Overview
Construction is underway!
The renovations will be complete in time for Summer 2026.

The magic of the Lodge isn’t just in its walls, it’s in the experiences and the memories we make there togetherHuckins Camper
Since 1928, the Program Lodge has been at the heart of Huckins activity and community. Every camper and staff member has gathered in the Lodge. It is the one building, the one place, that connects every generation. We want to ensure that the magic of the Lodge can continue for decades to come.
Our beloved Lodge served as the original Dining Hall, has hosted hundreds of talent shows, camp plays, and song contests, and is where generations of campers and staff have gathered for heart-filling moments during vespers, Hucksters, and Candlelight – our solemn and long-held evening programs and ceremonies.

Project Impact
The Lodge is a place where campers and staff alike can unplug and unwind, while surrounded by friends and community. It is where all can feel connected to everyone who has made Huckins their summer home in the past and where they create memories for the future. The Lodge needs critical adjustments to support its continuity. The Lodge is not large enough for the entire camp to gather comfortably and doesn’t meet current occupancy requirements. In working with a dedicated team of local architects and soliciting ideas and feedback from our Huckins community including campers, staff, parents and alumni, we have conceptualized an expansion to the existing Lodge footprint which will meet our needs for this space with minimal changes to the main room.
Preserving the historical elements of the existing Lodge is a critical consideration in our efforts. The main Lodge room will remain largely as-is, with a 16-foot addition to the building aimed at addressing accessibility and capacity concerns. A covered wrap-around porch will provide additional gathering space which can be used during camp and pre-and post-season programming. Adding accessible bathrooms in the rear of the building will allow the camp community to use the restroom during Lodge-based programming without having to leave the Lodge, increasing camper supervision and ensuring safety.
Expanding the Lodge will also allow for further programming opportunities to engage with our alumni and the Carroll County community. With an expansion to the existing footprint, we will increase our capacity to host alumni events and off-season programming such as school vacation camps for local families.
Investing in the staff experience is a current strategic priority at Huckins. The Lodge expansion will incorporate new elements aimed at increasing staff retention and an overall positive staff experience. The addition of dedicated “Zoom Rooms” will grant summer staff the ability to keep up with life outside of camp, providing space to take online classes or attend job interviews. Summer staff can use “The Hutch” as a lounge space during their free time. By dedicating ourselves to improving the staff experience through providing a space where staff can be productive and recharge, the camper experience will positively benefit.

Jody (Hutchinson) Skelton, Huckins’ beloved and most recent former director, has selected a unique and bespoke addition to the Lodge as her legacy project.
In Jody’s honor, we are creating “The Hutch” in the back section of the building. “The Hutch” will provide a beautiful and intentional space designed to display camp history and memorabilia, promoting connections and conversation as well as preserving and highlighting the rich history of Huckins.
Undergoing this expansion will ensure current and future generations of campers and staff will experience meaningful magical moments in the Lodge. We are relying on the generous and giving spirit of the Huckins community to complete this critical project. Please join us with an investment in our camper experience by making a gift to the Program Lodge fundraising initiative.
Thank you to everyone in the Huckins Community who contributed their time, expertise, and financial support to allow us to enhance and preserve the Program Lodge.
